Quant-N-Ol® Petroleum Alcohol Test
Quant-N-Ol® Petroleum Alcohol Test
On-Site Test Kit for Quantifying % Ethanol in Gasoline
The 1990 Clean Air Act requires that carbon monoxide emissions be reduced from motor vehicles to reduce ozone pollution in our atmosphere. The Environmental Protection Agency and the petroleum industry have worked together to solve this problem. Through their efforts, the petroleum industry has reformulated gasoline with oxygenated chemicals such as methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) or ethanol to accomplish this mandate.
The primary additive used for this purpose was methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). Although an excellent additive to reduce auto emissions, MTBE has had a negative impact on the environment. MTBE has contaminated groundwater and poses potential health problems to the population. Reformulating gasoline with ethanol as an oxygenate is an alternative to MTBE.
Quant-N-Ol is an on-site test for quantifying alcohol in gasoline. This fast, easy-to-use test allows regulators and gasoline distributors to test for the presence and percentage of alcohol in gasoline, on-site, with safe non-toxic reagents in less than 2 minutes. The analysis range for this field portable test is 0 to 90 %.
